About the Tour

Why the tour?

America is in a time of turbulence, tossed about by a fast-changing world that our institutions seem ill-equipped to handle. And so we struggle to right ourselves, and to find common ground on which we can land.

While such times are inevitably chaotic and even dangerous, they can also be eye-opening and creative, leading to unifying breakthroughs in our understanding of each other and our world.

In that spirit, and in collaboration with Crew2030.org, I’m taking a California to D.C. (and back again) road trip to engage folks in a dialogue about what divides us, what unites us, and how we can move forward, together. Every conversation I have is summarized on this blog.

The first half of my trip, which I took with my son, William, culminated in observing the inauguration of Donald Trump on the 20th, and participating in the Women’s March on Washington on the 21st. My return trip is now underway (my schedule is below).

Throughout this journey we’ve been testing and refining a small group conversation guide designed to help us discover the basis for a new, unifying vision for our country: One that “pops the bubbles” of separation to reveal a new foundation for connection and community.
